Charlotte’s Whole-Home Humidifier Installation And Repair Specialists

You’ve worked hard to make every aspect of your Charlotte-area home match your lifestyle. From wall colors to furniture and flooring choices, everything contributes to your sense of comfort. But if you’re like many North Carolina homeowners, you probably haven’t taken control of a very important contributor to your family’s comfort: managing your home’s year-round humidity levels.

If you find winter’s dryness uncomfortable, the solution is remarkably simple. Harmony Heating & Air can install the comfort and convenience of a whole-house humidifier for less than you probably think! We’ll evaluate your home and recommend the model that best fits your needs, so your home becomes even cozier.

How Does Carolina Humidity Affect My Comfort?

When Charlotte homeowners think about comfort, they usually focus on temperature. It’s why nearly every home has heating and cooling systems. But there’s a very important additional component to whether you and your family feel comfortable, and that’s your home’s indoor humidity.

There’s always moisture in the North Carolina air, but we don’t notice it most of the time. When there’s too much humidity on a hot summer’s day, we complain about sweating and breathing muggy air. And when winter approaches, we start to notice how dry the air in our home feels. It makes our skin and scalp feel itchy, and some of us start to develop sore throats.

Did you know that temperature and humidity are closely related? When the temperature in Charlotte climbs, the air is able to hold more moisture. Conversely, when the thermometer drops, the air can’t hold as much moisture. When that happens, your skin’s normal moisture starts to evaporate, leaving it feeling dry and causing you to reach for your favorite lotion. Your sinuses and the air passages in your nose and throat get drier, too. Plus, low indoor humidity contributes to static electricity, causing those annoying shocks and making your hair stand on end.

The good news is that there’s an easy way to take control of your Charlotte home’s humidity levels. Adding a whole-home humidifier lets you set the humidity to what’s most comfortable for you. Harmony Heating & Air can install the right humidifier for the size of your home and heating system.

Charlotte-Area Options For Humidifiers

If you’ve been thinking about improving your control over your home’s indoor humidity, you have many choices, including:

Evaporator humidifiers. This old-fashioned design combines a fan with a filter that stays damp. As the far blows, it disperses the moisture from the filter into the air. Most models can only provide enough moisture to handle a single room, and it’s easy for evaporator models to actually send too much moisture into the air, which can lead to mold and mildew along your walls and baseboards.

Impeller humidifiers. Similar to evaporator models, impellers use a rotating disc and diffuser to send a cool mist of water into a room. Like evaporators, most can only provide enough humidity to treat a single room – and if you’re not diligent about keeping them clean, they can develop bacteria and mold spores that can spread into the air.

Ultrasonic humidifiers. An advanced version of impeller models, ultrasonic humidifiers use a diaphragm that vibrates at a frequency that’s beyond the range of our hearing. The vibration generates tiny water droplets that are pushed into the air with a fan. They tend to be quieter and are most effective for adding moisture to a single room.

Steam vaporizers. Another old-fashioned approach uses electrical energy to heat water into steam that’s distributed into the room. It’s similar to the steam you see coming out of a teakettle. While vaporizers tend to be inexpensive, direct exposure to steam can cause serious burns, so you probably want to avoid this type if you have young children or they’re frequent guests in your Charlotte home.

Whole-house humidifiers. These are our favorite … and the best choice for most Charlotte-area homes. That’s because they use your existing heating system to send the ideal level of humidity throughout every room of your home. They also work automatically, so once you set the desired humidity level, you don’t have to do anything. Maintenance is easy, too – most simply require a quick annual replacement of the water panel, which the Harmony Heating & Air team can handle as part of our preventive maintenance program.

Bypass humidifiers. This popular type of whole-house humidifier works with your existing HVAC system. It draws warm air from your furnace, passes it through a water panel to absorb moisture, and then circulates the humidified air back through your ductwork to reach every room. Bypass humidifiers are reliable, energy-efficient, and require very little maintenance — just an annual water panel replacement, which your HVAC technician can handle during a routine tune-up.
